The wedding venue we weren't looking for
We weren't supposed to be venue-hunting anymore.
After our four-venues-in-one-day tour, Hockley Valley was our frontrunner, and as far as we were concerned, the big search was done. We were into the part where you stop looking at new places and start picking colours.
What nudged us back into the search
Then the Hockley Valley quote came back, and the line item for the ceremony space gave us pause. It wasn't a dealbreaker on its own, but it was big enough that we started wondering whether the ceremony could happen somewhere else and the reception could still live at Hockley.
So I went looking. Not for a whole new wedding, just a ceremony spot. A small swap. A footnote.
The accidental discovery
That small search turned up a property I genuinely was not expecting.
I'm not going to name it yet, and I'm not going to say where it is. There are couples ahead of us on the list, and they get the first crack at putting down a deposit. Until they pass and we get our shot, it would feel like bad luck (and bad manners) to publicly attach ourselves, or the venue, to a place we haven't actually secured.
What I can tell you is what made me sit up.
Why we're a little smitten
- A beautiful gazebo that looks like it was built for a ceremony moment.
- Multiple event spaces, so the day can move and breathe instead of staying parked in one room.
- Real acreage, mature trees, the kind of grounds where you don't have to work hard for a picturesque photo.
- Golden hour and sunset light that does most of the work for the photographer.
- A full kitchen, which means actual catering flexibility instead of a fixed package.
- A great bar space, which matters more than I want to admit.
- Customizable in a way that fits the vision we've been quietly carrying, and more cost-effective than we expected once we ran the numbers.
If you've followed along since the very first shortlist, you know our criteria have always been bright, flexible, photogenic, and not-bank-breaking. This place hits all four in a way nowhere else on our list quite has.
Why we're being low-key
We never wanted to start over. We were happy at Hockley, and we were ready to commit. The only reason we even cracked open another search was that one line on a quote, and the only reason we're still talking about it is that the thing we found turned out to be bigger than the problem we were trying to solve.
But until the couples ahead of us decide, we don't have it. So I'd rather underpromise here and overshare later.
What's next
If the timing breaks our way this week, I'll be back with the full reveal: the name, the location, the photos, the why. If it doesn't, Hockley is still a venue we love, and we'll keep building the day we already started planning.
Either way, I'll let you know.
